Selena Gomez on her healthy relationship with social media: “I’m really happy” | Entertainment
Selena Gomez has had a “healthy” relationship with social media since she started letting her assistant run her accounts.
The 29-year-old singer removed apps like Instagram and Twitter from her phone three years ago, and now only posts to platforms by texting photos and captions to her assistant, who then uploads them for her.
And Selena – who was once the most followed person on Instagram – says her new way of dealing with social media has helped “save [her] life”.
She said: “I do all my messages by texting my assistant and the caption I want.
“I say this because it’s an important and important part of why I feel as healthy as I have been. Actually, I’m totally unaware of what’s going on in pop culture, and that makes me really happy. And maybe that doesn’t make everyone happy, but for me, it really saved my life. “
The “Lose You To Love Me” singer opted to undergo her drastic social media cleanup after she felt it was “out of control” to have her personal life “spread out” online.
She added, “To be honest, I was just, like, ‘It’s too much information.’ It’s too much of my personal life sprawled out all over the place, and it was just out of control. my thoughts and everything I consumed revolved around a million different people in the world saying good and bad things.
“And I was like, ‘Why would I do it? I don’t get anything out of it. Nothing gives me life. ‘ And I just broke, and I’m done with it. “
Initially, Selena wanted to completely delete her accounts – but was convinced to keep them by her team.
Speaking to the Beauty Inc. issue of WWD magazine, she said, “I’m glad I didn’t have [delete my accounts], because it’s a wonderful way to stay connected, and when I keep going, it makes me happy to know that I’m just completely honest and true to who I am. “
